After a year of gestation, and thanks to a crowdfunding campaign that raised more than 53,000 euros of funds, Framasoft has just released the first stable version of PeerTube. Defending the development of free software since always, the famous French association has indeed developed with its community software sharing and publishing videos on the Internet, operating on the principle of peer-to-peer (peer-to-peer) in a decentralized way and federated.

The idea, generous, is to offer a free alternative to video platforms like YouTube or DailyMotion. Unlike these essential giants of the Web, PeerTube does not rely on a centralized platform, but on a network of hosts (called instances) each setting its own rules (thematic, user management, etc.). Anyone with the right skills can install on his own server his own version of PeerTube, whose code is open (public) and therefore editable. According to the peer-to-peer technique, videos are fragmented among all users who view them so as not to overload the instances that host them.

In the absence of any governance and censorship, Framasoft, which has completely revised the interface of its site for the occasion, relies on the ethics and sense of responsibility of members of its community to effectively moderate the publication of videos broadcast in accordance with the laws. Always with the same goal: to empower Internet users by giving them the opportunity to express themselves and escape Gafam (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft).
