As part of its observation and regulatory missions, the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (Arcep) conducts an annual survey to assess the quality of service of the metropolitan mobile operators. For the 2018 edition, more than one million measurements in 2G, 3G and 4G were made on the whole territory, in all departments, indoors, outdoors and in transport, on the most mobile services. (web browsing, video playback, data transfer, SMS and voice calls), so as to evaluate the performance of operator networks, in a strictly comparable manner.

The synthetic results, available on the Arcep website, show an overall improvement of data services for mobile Internet in all areas (rural, intermediate and dense). Still at the top of the ranking, Orange posted the best performances, followed by Bouygues Telecom, which this time ahead of SFR, with Free Mobile closing the pace with significantly worse results on a large number of indicators, despite a notable increase.

According to Arcep, the average download throughput continues to increase to 30 Mbit / s in metropolitan France, all operators, technologies and areas combined. It even reaches 39 Mbps in 4G. With, as everyone knows, a great disparity in practice ...

The detailed results of the 2018 survey are available on the monreseaumobile.fr website, the Arcep cartographic tool, but also in open data. Each one can thus compare the quality of service of the operators according to his specific uses (telephony, mobile Internet, in dense zone, in rural area, in the train, on the roads, etc.).
